Cybersecurity Risks in the Digital Age
Threats to Hotel Network Services for Guests and Internal Systems
Ambassador Hotel

Customer Background

As hotels strive to enhance guest experience through convenient wireless connectivity, they also face increasing cybersecurity risks. Public Wi-Fi networks without proper encryption can expose guests to threats such as malware infections and man-in-the-middle attacks, allowing hackers to intercept unencrypted data, steal personal information, or carry out other malicious activities. Furthermore, an insufficiently secured hotel network may allow compromised guest devices to serve as gateways for deeper intrusions—jeopardizing internal systems and sensitive corporate data.

For Ambassador Hotel, which operates multiple buildings, the accelerating pace of digital transformation and rising demand for reliable wireless services make cybersecurity and network stability mission-critical. Protecting internal systems used by staff and ensuring a safe, secure internet experience for guests are no longer optional—they are foundational to maintaining trust, operational integrity, and overall service quality.

The Challenges
Issue 1 The expiration of Other UTM Brand license has left the hotel without critical security updates and vendor support, increasing exposure to vulnerabilities. Issue 2 As external attack techniques continue to evolve, the hotel’s current perimeter defenses have proven insufficient to effectively prevent and mitigate emerging threats.
UTM License Expiration Forces the Hotel to Seek an Enhanced Security Upgrade Solution

The hotel previously relied on a UTM device to safeguard its external network perimeter. However, with the expiration of the license, the device can no longer receive updates or vendor support, leaving the network exposed to emerging threats. As cyberattack methods continue to evolve, the existing solution has become inadequate. The hotel is now seeking a security upgrade that not only strengthens external network protection, but also achieves the optimal balance between maintenance cost and network performance.

Achievements

(1) Pico-UTM 100 Deployment Replaces Security Functions of Other UTM Brand.

The customer opted to deploy the Pico-UTM 100 at the external gateway of the hotel’s building, replacing the security functions of the existing Other UTM Brand. The Pico-UTM 100 strengthens external network protection, enabling more effective detection and defense against a variety of external threats. This not only enhances network security but also minimizes potential business risks.

(2) Original Equipment Retains Network Communication Functions.

Without the need to overhaul the entire network infrastructure, the customer is able to continue using the existing equipment for network connectivity management.

By deploying the Pico-UTM 100, the customer successfully upgraded external network protection and resolved the issue of Other UTM Brand license expiration. This reinforced defense against external attacks, offering customers a safer and more seamless network experience.
